A little bit about me..
So I am the real idiot abroad and I have been travelling now for over 4 years now. I have visited 28 countries in 6 different continents and worked in 5 different countries so far.
It started on a last-minute trip which was due to last around 3 months and ended up lasting over 16 months! The only thing I had was a one-way ticket to Bali and my backpack. I certainly did not plan to travel for so long but I can honestly say it has been the best four years of my life.
Over the years I have learnt about many different countries and cultures, met some amazing people and had some once in a life time experiences. Travelling isn’t all roses and rainbows though, there can be times when you feel lonely, get a little homesick and other times when you just need some downtime or a good night’s rest. One thing I can promise you is that the ups definitely make all the down times worth it. You will meet some lifelong friends along the way from all over the world and memories that you will struggle to put into words.
When I first started, I had no idea what to expect or what to do (hence the name idiot abroad) but I have slowly built up a little knowledge and a few tips that now I would like to call myself a seasoned traveller. I have passed some of these tips onto people I have met along the way and they have usually been very grateful so now I thought I would put all this information in one place to share with the world.
Hopefully it can help some people out that are in need of some advice and tips or even inspire some of you to start your own trip. This is a site leaning more towards the advice and help side rather than personal stories of my trip although there will be some along the way.
